Angle and backout knives cut the back relief that seats sprung mouldings — crowns, beds, and coves — flat at installation. Fixed-angle patterns are stocked at 38° and 52° for crown and bed back cuts and 45° for coves, each ground left- and right-hand.
Adjustable backout knives handle the same relief across a range of stock sizes — one pattern covers 1-1/8" to 2", the other 1-3/4" to 3-1/8" — so a varied run doesn't need a knife per width. Both styles carry corrugated (CBA) and Williams & Hussey (WHA) catalog numbers; specify the head when ordering.
