The IN653 is a general-purpose 5 in. surfacing head for mid-size moulders and planers, with a 4 in. cutting length for face and edge dressing on solid stock. The aircraft-aluminum body reduces weight, noise, and horsepower demand compared with a steel head. Four wings hold four-sided solid carbide inserts in a staggered spiral pattern that shears the grain for a smooth surface, with 16 effective cutting teeth; the four-wing layout clears chips well and takes a heavier bite where stock removal matters more than the finest finish. Inserts index to a new edge or replace on or off the machine — no grinding, no regrinds. The cutting diameter stays constant as inserts are rotated, keeping setup minimal, and the reduced cutting pressure supports faster feed. Specify bore size when ordering.
