Where dado joinery has to be cut in thick stock — deep shelf housings in solid timber, cross-lap joints in structural members, wide grooves in heavy panel — the limit is usually cutting depth rather than width. This dado set at 12 in. on a 1 in. bore is the largest in the range, and the extra diameter over the 10 in. set is what buys that depth. It cuts groove widths from 1/4 in. to 13/16 in. by stacking two 1/8 in. 24-tooth outer blades with the supplied chippers — two at 1/8 in., one at 1/4 in. and one at 1/16 in. — which combine to the 13/16 in. maximum. The outer blades score clean shoulder lines at the edges of the cut while the chippers clear the waste between them, leaving a flat bottom ready for a fitted joint. Ground at a 15° hook. The 1 in. bore suits large-format cabinet saws and heavy radial arm saws in that arbor class — confirm your arbor will accept a full 13/16 in. stack before ordering.
